Project Purley is the local history society for Purley on Thames in West Berkshire.<\/p>\n
We have a regular programme of talks on the third Friday of each month from September to April and outings and visits in summer.\u00a0 \u00a0Each year we sponsor performances by the Rain or Shine Theatre Company which raise money for local good causes.<\/p>\n
Individual members pursue their own research and interests and we publish articles in our Journal, which is published three times a year.\u00a0 Contributions and articles are also submitted to Purley Parish News and other publications and occasionally we put on exhibitions or host the meetings of other groups.\u00a0 Several members are willing to do commissioned research (for example into family history) or give talks to other societies.<\/p>\n
Project Purley was founded in 1982 by merging three groups: Transcribing Parish Registers, Natural History and Archaeology at the Church.\u00a0 We have an extensive archive of research material including photographs, drawings, articles and copies and transcripts of original documents, much of which can be found on the website by clicking on the Archive option on the menu above.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
